Weekend Preview June 20th/22nd

The action again starts on Friday when Accrington travel to Alexandra Meadows to meet East Lancs. Both clubs will be looking for a first win in the competition this season but in Accrington's case the club is looking to end a sequence of seventeen 2020 matches without a win dating back to the opening match of 2022 against Nelson.

Next to bottom club Accrington meet ninth placed Rawtenstall at The iMEP Arena on Sunday. Accrington lost at Enfield and Rawtenstall were beaten by Bacup last Sunday. Accrington have already beaten Rawtenstall this season in the Worsley Cup back in May but the club is on a run of eight successive defeats in all competitions since winning at East Lancs in the middle of May. 

In 257 previous Lancashire League meetings between the clubs Rawtenstall have 88 wins, Accrington 87 with 82 draws/no results. 

Rawtenstall have five wins and Accrington three of the previous ten meetings.

Accrington make three changes with skipper Graeme Sneddon, Waleed Majeed and Tom Braysford replacing Jacob Clarke, Husan Ashraf and Ryan Bond.

Josh Parker and Ben Sutcliffe replace Harry Etchells and Leighton Le Carpentier in the Rawtenstall team. New captain Cameron Holder will lead the team and Tabassum Aziz will keep wicket.

The Ball Sponsor is Marion Ormerod and Karen Stephenson.

The seconds travel to Rawtenstall on Sunday in the reverse fixture.

The thirds travel to Chatburn Road on Saturday to face Clitheroe 4th XI.

The club hosts the re-arranged second Alan Worsick Memorial Tournament from 1pm on Saturday when Accrington, holders Read, Rishton, Great Harwood, Enfield, Oswaldtwistle Immanuel and Withnell Fold will take part in this year's competition.

This weeks teams

This season we are looking back at the historic Lancashire League championship winning season of 1975 and also the less successful season of 1995 when Colin Miller was professional.

A career best 81 from Malcolm Taylor took Accrington to their highest score of the season as they defeated Haslingden by 82 runs to record a fourth successive league win on Saturday June 21st 1975. 

An unbeaten century by Rishton professional Aftab Baloch ended Accrington's Worsley Cup hopes at Thorneyholme Road the following day Sunday June 22nd 1975.

Accrington went down to an eighth successive defeat in all competitions losing at home to Burnley by 2 wickets on Saturday June 17th 1995.
