This weeks teams

This season we are looking back at the long hot summer of 1976 when the club finished as runners up in both league and cup to Rawtenstall and also the less successful season of 1996 when the club finished bottom for the third season running in it's 150th year with Chad Grainger as professional.

A vital stand between skipper Ian Birtwistle (33 not out) and Tony Gallagher (16 not out) got 3rd placed Accrington out of trouble for the second week running as the champions won at Lowerhouse by 20 runs on Saturday July 17th 1976.

South African Test star Allan Donald took 8-47 and then hit an unbeaten 31 to lead title chasing Rishton to a 5 wicket win over Accrington at Blackburn Road on Saturday July 20th 1996.

An opening stand of 170 by the Wood family helped strugglers Rawtenstall to a 9 wicket win over bottom club Accrington at Thorneyholme Road on Sunday July 21st 1996.
