New Club President

New Club President

We are pleased to announce Duncan Warburton as the new Club President.

Former Accrington player Duncan captained the second, third and fourth teams in a career that spanned three decades, appearing twice in the first team in 1987 and twice in 1994.

A former Cricket Section Secretary (1994-2005) and League Rep (1999-2005), Duncan became Lancashire League Assistant Secretary in 2005, taking over from Lionel Cooke as Secretary the following year.

After retiring as a player Duncan took up umpiring and became the Lancashire League's top official, winning the Harry Saul Trophy for best umpire a record fourteen times and umpiring at Minor Counties and Second XI Championship level.

The new President said: "When Jonathan approached me to see if I was interested in the President's position I accepted immediately as it was an honour not just to be asked but to have even been thought about in the first place.

"As a player who represented the Club from 1973 until retiring in 1997 I truly have the Club at heart and look forward to watching the development of the vibrant Junior Section which is now producing some very promising players who are making their way into Senior Cricket.

"Add to this the signings already announced, who will bolster the First Team, this will help build on the progress made towards the end of the 2025 season and carry it on into 2026."

Chairman Jon Hayhurst added "Myself and the rest of the Management Committee are really happy to see Duncan become our President. He has a great understanding of the club and can see the hard work and dedication of all our volunteers who have helped the clubs progression over recent years".

"We all wish Duncan well and look forward to working with him in his new position as President".
