This season we are looking back at the long hot summer of 1976 when the club finished as runners up in both league and cup to Rawtenstall and also the less successful season of 1996 when the club finished bottom for the third season running in it's 150th year with Chad Grainger as professional.

Champions Accrington lost for the first time since winning the title last September when arch rivals Ramsbottom staged a stunning fightback to earn a 27 run win at Thorneyholme Road on Saturday May 8th 1976.

An unbeaten half century and a five wicket haul for professional Brad McNamara sent Accrington to a fifth successive defeat after a 29 run loss at Haslingden on Saturday May 11th 1996.

Accrington won for the first time in the Worsley Cup for five years when they knocked out Colne at Thorneyholme Road on Sunday May 12th 1996.
