Weekend Preview June 13th/15th

Weekend Preview June 13th/15th

Accrington have the chance of swift revenge this weekend when last weekend's conquerors Colne and Enfield are again the opponents in a symmetrical twist of the fixture list.

Colne are the visitors for Friday's 2020 JWL Bitter Group fixture after an agonising last ball defeat in the league last Sunday. Colne have won all four of the clubs previous meetings in the competition. The Ball Sponsor is Chris Smith The Detailing Devil.

It's back to league action on Sunday when Accrington return to Dill Hall Lane to face Enfield. Jurie Snyman's seventh century for the club wasn't quite enough to see Accrington over the line in last Friday's 2020 at the same venue.

It's 93 wins apiece with 68 draws/no results and one tie in 255 previous Lancashire League meetings between the two local rivals. The Ball Sponsor is Heritage Shops.

Accrington make a couple of changes with Nathaniel Young and Waqar Ashraf replacing Yousuf Ali and David Ormerod.

Enfield pick from thirteen, adding Alfie Cook and Liam Jackson to Saturday's team.

The seconds host Enfield in the reverse fixture on Sunday.

The Ladies are also in action on Sunday at 9.30am when they take on Feniscowles at The iMEP Arena.

On Saturday the thirds return to action with a home game against Lowerhouse 4ths.

This weeks teams

This season we are looking back at the historic Lancashire League championship winning season of 1975 and also the less successful season of 1995 when Colin Miller was professional.

Alan Richardson made a timely return to form to hit a match winning unbeaten 64 after Accrington were struggling with half the side out for 51 chasing 160 for victory against Todmorden at Centre Vale on Saturday June 14th 1975.

Don't forget Accrington's 50th Anniversary Dinner to celebrate the 1975 Lancashire League title win. That takes place a week on Saturday evening, 21st June, at the club and will hopefully see many of the victorious team gathered to reminisce while those sadly absent and no longer with us will be toasted and recalled fondly. Any remaining tickets are priced at £30.

Accrington went down to a seventh successive defeat, losing by 132 runs at Acre Bottom to Ramsbottom on Sunday June 11th 1995.
